Three Ways to Influence Others
By Kevin

My son was not buying the rules I set out for running a smoother family.

My supervisor wasn't taking my ideas seriously enough to make an impact in our company.

My relationship with others began to crumble and I couldn't figure out why.

These relationships in my personal, professional, and family mattered, in my day-to-day life.

I've been there and struggled quite a bit. I really wanted to great raise good young men. I wanted to lend my ideas and experience to strengthen our company. I want to improve relationships with those I know, love, and care about deeply.

The desire to improve in my life drove me to learn how I could improve my influence with those I care about the most. I focused on those who have played a major role in influenci...

Six Steps to Emotional Mastery
By Kevin

He stands 6'-7". With a booming voice and a caring soul, he looms within an audience of thousands of indivdiuals who come to learn from him on a yearly basis. His spirit of provocation is to question the big, obvious things about living. He has written best sellers about motivation, personal development, and business growth. His name? (Anthony) Tony Robbins.

Think about Robbins' work. Then think about yours. The way you go about your daily life is driven, in large part, by emotions. An emotional approach can be used in personal and professional life. The emotional energy within you drives your own important and subtle support, praise, and nudge to try new things.

I have spent considerable time learning from Tony. I have touched on six sk...

Use Your Superpower in Your Life
By Kevin

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

~ Anais Nin

When you were little, you feared nothing. Learning to walk didn't scare you. As a toddler, you had little reason to fear anything. As a result, you stayed in the moment. You just went about the day, taking one thing at a time.

If you fell down while walking. You just got back up and kept moving. You didn't know it then, but you were tapped into your own superpower.

Wait..."I had a superpower?," you ask.

I suggest that thinking in past tense "had a superpower" is wrong. You always have a superpower within you.

Your superpower is courage.

Courage is defined as, "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty." (Merriam-Webster, 2019)

Courage is got you through being a toddler, kindergarten, gr...

The #1 Thing which helped me with Anxiety
By Kevin

I first discovered anxiety in 4th grade.

My school's track coach walked up to me and said, "I'm thinking of putting you in the 1600m race." I told him, "uhhh, ok." Then the time came for me to line up with the other 7 kids in the race...I felt this deep nervousness. I began thinking of all the things that will go wrong. I had no real idea what was taking place at the moment and I locked up in fear. I began with the certainty that I am going to look bad and fail. After the gun sounded, I allowed anxiety to win.

That race in 4th grade was something I began to understand the power of fear within the brain. I fell behind in the race very quickly and I couldn't compete. I feared the worst, that I would fail, and I did. In years that followed,...

A quick antidote to Depression
By Kevin

I was sadly reminded this past week of the power that depression has on an individual. As someone who has been through depression, I the depths and power that helplessness and hopelessness has on an individual. As I have become a sought-out therapist and addictions counselor, I have learned how to help individuals move through depression and come through the other side of the deep and dark times.

Along the way, another client of mine taught me a very powerful vision of what depression can do. He said it like this, "Kevin...the problem with depression is that it begins to grow very silently. If depression could talk, it would say something like this, 'stay here on the couch and do nothing. Here take the remote control of the television....

Brain vs. Inner Mind: Which Do You Use More Often?
By Franz Locsin

By: Kevin R. Foley, M.Ed., LPC

Feelings of depression, anxiety, and depression are patterns of thought and behavior that have drawn the majority of attention, whether it's in health care or business. Much of the so-called "problem solvers" focus their attention on the "presenting problem." Consider that our entire health field is dedicated to diagnose and treat symptoms, whether they be physical, mental, or emotional, through medication management of these symptoms. Business consultants spend much of their time determining faults and failings of a business, through high priced consultants. Instead of dwelling on the problem, I have found much of what leads to progressive and lasting change comes from forward motion through self-awareness ...

Listening and Guiding is my business...
By Franz Locsin

Let's Talk: A Therapist Invitation...

In your daily grind of protecting your image from others, we go from day-to-day, expending tremendous amounts of energy trying to conceal and contain the way you really feel. This becomes an energy-draining task. The pain you feel has been mounting since childhood. You have been judged, belittled, and told you are not good enough.

It is from that childhood, or later, when you begin to believe that you are in this never-ending deep sadness, excruciating anxiety, and deep valley of doubt. These feelings of sadness, anxiety, and misery have become so overwhelming that you feel an unending amount of stress, fear, and insecurity that you give up who you were and accept the possibility that it will never get...

3 Keys to Relationships in Life
By Franz Locsin

One of my mentors, Brendon Burchard, taught me a valuable lesson on what he calls the "Arenas of Life." He pointed to three keys to any relationship in life.

Attention

Being present is extremely important to whatever you do or are doing. He reminds me that whomever I help, giving my whole attention to them matters more than I realize.

Affect

These are the emotions that you and I bring to a relationship. I bring emotion to the relationship. When I determine my own emotion in my interaction with others, I am being more authentic and valuable to the relationship.

Action

Engaging in purposeful and intentional focus to the relationship greatly increases the relationship. I intentionally put my phone down and turn the ringer off throughout the day. I am present and focu...

The Truth About Disease
By Franz Locsin

If you look at disease in the world, you are bound to see varied cases of conditions in the body that lead to further health complications. One website I looked at this morning said the top three deadliest diseases in the world are:

1. Heart disease (Ischemic Heart Disease) - heart attack

2. Cebrovascular Disease - strokes

3. Lower Respiratory Infections - pneumonia and bronchitis

Any one of these three usually give off warning signs. These warnings are the body's way of saying "pay attention to me." These signs are telling us one essential truth about disease.

Dis-ease

The very word "disease" gives us a giant clue as to what's going on within us. We get these conditions because we are not longer at ease. Our ease has been thrown off course and the bo...
