What's your Monday Focused On?

by Kevin R. Foley, M.Ed., LPC

Monday should bring about a renewed interest on what we "must" accomplish in the week. I've found two types of approaches to Monday mornings.

Safety Seekers

Mark is a friend. He celebrates the end of the week every Friday. He tends to open his work week with dread. His hands very carefully cradle several cups of coffee to begin the day, as if each is an essential medicine at the start of the week. I asked Mark what he has planned for the week. He answered, "I have no idea. I'm just trying to get through this morning."

Risk-Takers

Matt is an accomplished colleague. When he gets to work, he is "all in." I asked Matt what he has planned for the week. "I've got a lot of things to accomplish. The fun will be in how I can get it all done." Matt excuses himself to get to a meeting he's been planning for a week.

I'm not a gambling man. If I were, I'd put my money on Matt. He has taken the time to plan out his week. He has taken the time to plan out his week. Because Matt has invested in planning his own time, risk-taking will likely be productive. Mark will probably drift along the week, looking forward on what I call the Default Life Journey.

It's Monday. Take time to focus on your greatest accomplishments you'd like to experience this week.
